Owencarrow Viaduct Disaster Commemoration

We were delighted to attend the beautiful memorial event held today to mark the 100th anniversary of the Owencarrow Viaduct disaster. The event honoured the memory of those who lost their lives that night, those who were injured and those involved in the rescue following the tragic event. Our pupils learned about the history of the railway in our county and the major engineering feat involved in building the viaduct. A beautiful new viewing area and memorial site has been developed here at the location. Congratulations and well done to everyone involved in organising this event, a fitting tribute to this important part of our local history.
