Visit to Meenadreen Windfarm

On Tuesday 6th February the Green School Committee and 4th Class made the long journey to Meenadreen Windfarm. Meenadreen Windfarm is the largest onshore wind farm in Donegal, consisting of 38 turbines with a total capacity of 95MW. It has been operational since 2017.

Here the children learned about the windfarm and how it was built. They also learned how the renewable energy is made and stored for Energia. The children were amazed to learn how Hydrogen is produced and used to power buses in Belfast!  There was a quiz and even spot prizes. We explored the inside of a wind turbine and learned all about using a harness when climbing. The children were delighted to receive a goodie bag on the way home!
